Lately there have been reports of people unable to download our meeting list. After a serious period of denial,

followed by another period of procrastination and finger pointing,

I realized that several newer browsers (like ‘Chrome’, which I use) and new devices (like the Samsung Galaxy 10.1) now have added the step of having to

click on a downward-pointing arrow near the bottom of the screen to download a file (like a meeting list).

If you have trouble downloading a file from our site, or following a link starting here, check the bottom of the screen for little arrows.

Special note to Blackberry users: Good Luck.

Patchogue at 7:30 pm, until further notice.

“.......talk to each other, reason things out.......”

It’s easy to start a group phone list.. just pass a sheet around the room and

ask members who are willing to accept Al-Anon calls to put their first names and

phone or text number and/or e-mail address (anonymous, please) on the sheet.

Every month or so, one member can call the numbers on the list to remove any number that is no longer in use

and keep in touch with members who may have fallen out of touch…

Al-Anon Suffolk Information Phone Service can’t offer support or counseling.

What we can do is to help you find a meeting where you can listen and talk to others who understand your situation.

If you’ve been with us a while you might consider taking a turn at answering our phones.

During the time period you select, calls to the Al-Anon line (631 669 2827)

are directed to a phone you choose (even a cell phone!), anonymously.

Normally you would choose a time period on a day of a particular week of the month

(such as: 3pm to 5pm on the third Sunday of the month, for example),

and you’d answer the phones at that time every month.

It’s a great way to pay forward the service you’ve received!.

Grow your program: take a speaking commitment for Friday 10AM in Blue Point.

Tuesday evening meeting at Bayport could use support.

They meet Tuesday nights at the

United Methodist Church

482 Middle Road in Bayport.

Beginners at 7:30 and regular meeting at 8:00pm.

We could use all the support we can get over here.

Stepping Out on Wednesdays needs support.

The group meets at St. Marks RC Church on Randall Road in Shoreham, Weds at 12:30 in the parish center.

We are a Step/Tradition meeting that began in April of 2011 and in need of outside speakers and support.

What is Al-Anon all about? What can it offer me?

On a recent visit I noticed that the on-line literature order form offers a free downloadable version of the Service Manual.

Click on the link below, then: Publications>shop on-line>books and click on the Service Manual free download link

The file is a PDF, so it should be treated as a picture or text box… you can’t accidentally edit it.

A WORD TO ANYONE

CONFRONTED WITH VIOLENCE

Al-Anon's gentle process unfolds gradually, over time. But those of us facing violent, potentially life-threatening situations may have to make immediate choices to ensure safety for ourselves and our children. This may mean arranging for a safe house with a neighbor or friend, calling for police protection, or leaving money and an extra set of car keys where they can be collected at any time in case of emergency. It is not necessary to decide how to resolve the situation once and for all -only how to get out of harm's way until this process of awareness, acceptance, and action can free us to make choices for ourselves that we can live with.

Anyone who has been physically or sexually abused or even threatened may be terrified of taking any action at all. It can require every ounce of courage and faith to act decisively.

But no one has to accept violence. No matter what seems to trigger the attack, we all deserve to be safe.
