Dear Suffolk County Al-Anon Members,
The Al-Anon Suffolk Information Services is always working towards improving the website to better serve our local Al-Anon members and groups. Our Goal is for the website to be more informative, more interactive and easier to navigate. It already includes features such as a Calendar page for all upcoming events. Groups are encouraged to notify us of upcoming events. The Al-Anews is also available on the website. The new MAP feature enables members to find where a meeting is located and get directions. The Meeting List page will have new features such as locating meeting according to a specific day and time and the Help Wanted section. In addition the website will also be accessible on hand held devices.
In the next few months the website will undergo some changes to improve on some of its existing features as well as the addition of more features such as: Information to Newcomers, Program Tools, FAQ, Al-Anon history and pictures of Al-Anon and AA co-founders, CAL page, Links page, and more.. Please bare with us as these changes take place.
Documents and Forms such as groups’ mailing lists, guidelines, forms and other information will also be available on the website for download. Some of it will be available for member’s eyes only (due to anonymity). Those will require a password to access. Once established, I will be able to notify groups at the quarterly meetings on how to access these, or it can be sent to groups by upon request.
E-Mail Updates: Updates from the A.S.I.S will be sent to members and groups by e-mail upon request. Groups and members are encouraged to provide an anonymous email address. If you wish to be on the mailing list, please send your request to: ASIS, PO Box 490, Farmingville, NY, 11738 or e-mail the website at: webmaster@al-anon-suffolk-ny.org.
Members Area: An interactive on-line member’s Message Board will be lounged. It will be a private virtual place to post questions, exchange views and information, post if someone is looking for volunteers, speakers, look for e-mail exchange sponsors, etc. You may join as a group or as individual members by invitation only to ensure privacy. To join, members or groups need to submit a request by mail or e-mail that will include the groups’ name, location and WSO# for verification. The on-line message board cannot be as confidential as our "Closed" meeting are. We will do our best to ensure that all who are granted access to this message board are also Al-Anon members. Because of the nature of the internet, in reality the internet is "open" to anyone as there is no sure way of guaranteeing that all participants are Al-Anon members, therefore it will be monitored to ensure anonymity as much as possible.
Anonymity: Please keep in mind that anonymity in an online environment cannot be guaranteed with the same degree of certainty as when members meet face to face. To ensure your anonymity, choose an email address that does not disclose personal information such as a full name.
Suggestions and comments from members are always welcome, needed and greatly appreciated. We welcome any new ideas on how we can further improve the website.
